Apple is a major force in both smartphones and tablets, with its iPhone and iPad ranges offering some of the best – and most popular - phones and slates around.
While it’s best known for the iPhone, it’s in some senses had even more success with the iPad, as its tablets consistently outsell those from any other company.
Apple also offers a wider selection of iPads than it does iPhones, including cheap basic models, the mid-range iPad Air, the premium iPad Pro (in two different sizes), and the compact iPad mini range, so there’s something for everyone.
Three is a good choice for an Apple iPad because 5G comes as standard on the network, so if you choose a 5G iPad then you’ll get 5G without paying any extra.
Three also offers plans with unlimited data, so you can make the most of your iPad to browse, stream and play when away from Wi-Fi, and the network’s plans are affordably priced, so you can better justify an expensive iPad model.
Plus, with Three you get access to the Three+ app, which is jam-packed full of exclusive discounts and deals from other brands.
The iPad Pro 11 (2021), iPad Pro 12.9 (2021), iPad Air 10.9 (5th Gen), and iPad mini 8.3 (2021) all support 5G. So you can get 5G on a high-end, mid-range or compact Apple tablet.
If you want the absolute best iPad available then that would be one of the iPad Pro 2021 models, with the iPad Pro 11 (2021) likely being the best fit for most people.
This has an incredibly powerful M1 chipset (which you’ll also find in some MacBooks), plus an 11-inch 1668 x 2388 screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, and a long-lasting battery. Thanks to support for keyboards and the Apple Pencil this is also ideal for productivity and creativity, but it’s powerful enough to handle anything.
The iPad Pro 12.9 (2021) is the very best iPad you can buy at the time of writing. This has all the same perks as the 11-inch model – namely a supercharged M1 chipset, a 120Hz refresh rate, hefty battery life, and support for the Apple Pencil and keyboards. But it has a larger 12.9-inch screen, and its uses superior mini-LED tech, for the best picture you’ll get on an iPad.
The iPad 10.2 (2021) is the most affordable Apple iPad that’s currently available on Three. This has a 10.2-inch 1620 x 2160 screen, a fairly powerful A13 Bionic chipset, stereo speakers, up to 10 hours of battery life, up to 256GB of storage, and support for the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard.
So while this is one of the more basic slates in Apple’s range, it still has just about every base covered – though note that it doesn’t support 5G.
The iPad Air 10.9 (5th Gen) – which came out in 2022 – is arguably the best value Apple iPad, as this has many of the perks of the Pro line but at a much lower price.
It has a 10.9-inch 1640 x 2360 screen, 5G, the same powerful Apple M1 chipset as the latest iPad Pro, stereo speakers, all-day battery life, up to 256GB of storage, and support for Apple’s key accessories, like the Apple Pencil and the Smart Keyboard.
So it’s big, powerful, has excellent battery life, and is incredibly versatile, making it a superb choice for most iPad buyers.
The iPad Air 10.9 (5th Gen) is the latest iPad at the time of writing. This launched in March of 2022, and it’s an upper mid-range slate with more power than just about any other tablet (other than the latest iPad Pros), along with a big 10.9-inch screen, a long-lasting battery, 5G, and wide accessory support.
Apple is known for offering premium, high-quality tablets, so you can be confident that even if you buy one of the company’s cheapest iPads it will have been thoughtfully designed and built to last.
Apple also offers one of the best tablet operating systems in the form of iPadOS, which these days offers almost as much power as a desktop operating system, while still being slick and simple to use on a touchscreen. Plus, through the App Store there are near endless high-quality tablet apps, many of which you won’t find on other platforms.
