3G.co.uk was launched in 1999 by Kevin Thomas, who had previously worked in a number of telecom companies such as AT&T and BT. The initial mission at that time was to write unique telecom news and produce independent reviews of the latest phones.
In 2003, we launched our online mobile store selling mobile phones and SIMs. This worked very well and in 2007 we agreed to work with Three UK to offer their mobile products to our readers. This relationship continues today and in 2022 we will have worked with Three for 15 years.
The great thing about working with Three is that we can offer online exclusives to our readers which are not offered by Three themselves. This is our unique selling point.
The Director responsible for 3G.co.uk is Simon Thomas, who has been in charge since 2010. He is supported by our editorial manager James Rogerson who has also been with the company since then.
The 3G management team (including both Directors and the editorial manager) has a combined 43 years of telecom related experience and has an experienced team of telecom researchers and writers supporting them.
The main reason to use our website over others is that we will normally have one or more exclusive online offers which are not available either online via Three or at their high street phone stores.
You can buy with total confidence as all purchases made after clicking through our website are made directly with Three (3). All returns and refunds are also handled by Three, as is every aspect of customer service.
We are 100% independent and do not represent Three or speak on its behalf, and are entirely independent of Three.
But we’re not satisfied with just being a store – we intend 3G.co.uk to be the one place you’ll need to go to learn about all the latest phones, network technologies, and about Three itself, through the many product reviews, guides and news stories we offer. Armed with this information you should be well-equipped to make the best possible purchasing decisions, and when you’re ready to buy you’re sure to find a great deal on our site.
If you make a purchase through 3G.co.uk (be it for a smartphone, tablet, SIM-only plan or any other product) then we’ll get a small commission, but you can rest assured that this commission doesn’t influence the price you pay.
All of our deals are either the same prices as those found on Three’s site, or in some cases we’ll have an exclusive deal or sale, where you can get an even better price than going to Three direct. So you’ll pay the same or less when shopping through 3G.co.uk, but never more.
You can also rest assured that your statutory rights aren’t affected by using 3G.co.uk – we just help you find the best deals. Once you make a purchase, Three itself will process it and handle any refunds and returns.
Simon Thomas (Director)
Simon has been involved with 3G.co.uk since 2010 and makes good use of his first class honours degree in business management by handling the upkeep of the price comparison tools and the wider website. He’s also responsible for some of the editorial content.
Kevin Thomas (Director)
Kevin has many years of telecoms experience, having worked for BT and AT&T and gained an HND in telecommunications before founding 3G.co.uk in 1999. He also spearheaded the launch of the site’s store component in 2003, and remains responsible for some editorial content.
James Rogerson (Editorial Manager)
James has been with the company for more than 11 years, starting out as a writer and now acting as editorial manager too, while also working as a freelance sub-editor at TechRadar. He’s an expert in all things mobile technology, and has well over a decade of experience as a writer in the industry.
As the world moved beyond 3G and started relying on 4G, we launched the site 4G.co.uk in 2008 to provide deep insights into the technology and its rollout in the UK, along with reviews of the UK’s mobile networks. The site now also provides information on 5G, as well as offering a price comparison service which compares thousands of deals from every major network and other significant retailers, so you can find the best possible deal for whatever mobile product you’re interested in.
In anticipation of the 5G revolution, we launched 5G.co.uk in August, 2014. Initially covering everything to do with 5G technology developments, the site now also details where 5G is available and on which networks, and includes reviews of 5G phones and other devices, plus all the latest 5G news. This site also includes a price comparison tool, so whether you’re after a 5G device or just want to learn more about 5G technologies, this should be the only site you need.
SIMOnly.co.uk is the latest site under our umbrella and acts as a one-stop-shop for SIM-only deals in the UK. Its price comparison tool allows you to quickly and easily see the prices and allowances offered across numerous networks, so you can speedily find the right deal for you.
